Cards guide which type of chess piece you can move. In Level 1, draw one card and move that piece type. In Level 2, start with three cards, draw a fourth, and choose a card to play. If the card has no legal move, discard it and pass.

Card-guided rules, with a capture-the-king goal
Pieces use their usual movement patterns, but this is not standard chess: there is no check or checkmate, and you win by capturing the king. Basic castling is supported when the king and rook have not moved and the path is clear. Pawn rules include en passant on the next turn and promotion to a queen, rook, bishop, or knight.
